As much as you know your loyal companion, there is no predicting when they might venture off and get lost. Every year thousands of cats and dogs go missing leaving their pet parents worried. Microchipping is a permanent solution to ensure your pet always has ID, which will increase your chances of being reunited with them. Please feel free to reach out to us at 403-932-5875 to have your dog or cat microchipped.

How do microchips work?

The chip is inserted at the back of the neck just between the shoulder blades. Once implanted, the microchip is registered to the manufacturer database along with vital information about the pet and its owner. Each microchip contains a unique identifier that can be read with a special scanner. If a lost pet is found, most animal shelters and veterinary clinics can check for a microchip. If a chip is found, they will retrieve your contact details from the manufacturer.

When can my pet be microchipped?

Microchipping can be done as early as 6 to 8-weeks-old, ideally when your pet weighs at least 2 pounds. For newborns, the health of the kitten or puppy is also considered. Even though anesthesia is not required, they may be too fragile. If they are older, they can always be microchipped as it is a simple procedure.

Why is microchipping recommended?

Microchips don't cause harm or discomfort which makes it ideal for cats and dogs. Additionally, the chip cannot get damaged or removed like collars and tags. They are guaranteed to work for life and do not require any maintenance.
